Lamborghini Muira

At the '65 Turin motorshow Lamborghini presented a chassis, this was not just a chassis, the engine was mounted midships transversely. This chassis was the idea off Giampaolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace. The trisome made it in their free time, they thought Lamborghini needed something exciting, maybe a racecar. It was such a success that Ferrucio Lamborghini decided to actually built a car using this chassis, but Ferrucio rejected the idea to go racing. For the design off the bodywork a new designer had to be found, since Touring had gone broke. Eventually Bertone was contacted to design the new car. Who actually designed the car is a bit off a mystery, two men can be credited, Giorgetto Giugiarro and Marcello Gandini. In march 1966 at the Genevian motorshow the car was presented for the second time. This time as a complete car, the car made a stunning debut. It was the star off the show. People where waving their checkbooks to order one. The name Muira comes from a breed off Spanish fighting bulls. Three versions where built, the P400 from 1966 till 1969, the P400S from 1970 till 1971 and the P400SV from 1971 till 1972. All cars where fitted with four disc brakes. The first version had a bit off a problem with high speed stability. The nose started to lift at high speeds.
